SALT WATER BEARER

My effort is equal to the effort of everyone here today. I am no different from everybody else. I may even be worst off than some of you. What I have, you also have, maybe even more. You can wear fancy clothes by choice when you want to and if you want to. I can’t, even when I want to. You can eat what you want to eat, where you want to, when you want to. I have no choice, I can’t go just anywhere I want, when I want.

I am the poor boy at the foot of the light house. The only life I know is the tough life. Easy was the word you can never use in describing my life. Life was and is always a struggle. For the longest time fighting this poverty stricken existence has got me worn out and giving up, but like the soldier we persevere, we strike back with the strength that crushes.

I am a salt water bearer. Salt is life for me. It crystals are precious. Every granule is my hope. I travel with my salt water pail with God’s sun beating down on me. But I never complain. All these are but hardships and they too shall pass...

Socially, the answer is not yes, you can, but yes, you should.
Psychologically, the answer is not no, you should, but no you can’t.

It’s not a question of morality anymore but your own concept of the ideal and whether you’re willing to either compromise or strive to maintain the ideal.

At the end of the day, you as a person and you as your social roles requires are already inextricable.
